How to Link Aadhaar with PAN Online in 2024?

According to a judgment of the Supreme Court of 9 June 2017, if you have an Aadhaar card, linking an Aadhaar with your PAN is mandatory, and mention it in your tax returns.

The Income Tax Department has once again cautioned that if a PAN card is not linked to an Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, it will become inactive.

The initial deadline passed in March of this year. The penalty for linking this is now Rs 1,000.

But any Indian Citizen having an old PAN card should check their PAN Aadhaar link status and it should be linked if it is not done.

To determine if it has been linked, go to www.incometax.gov.in and click Link Aadhaar Status.

If your PAN and Aadhaar number are linked, you will receive the notification Your PAN is already linked to the given Aadhaar.

People can visit the Income Tax Department’s official e – e-filing website to link the two identities, in both cases – the same names in both databases or the case of a minor discrepancy.

The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN to their Aadhaar with a two-step process that does not even require login or registration on the website for e-filing.

Anyone can use this facility to connect their Aadhaar to their PAN.

The Two-Step Process for Linking the Aadhaar Card to PAN

In this section, we are explaining how we can link the Aadhaar card with PAN without logging in to the Income Tax Portal.

Step 1 For Linking Aadhaar Card with PAN:

Go to www.incometax.gov.in and click the link on the left pane – Link Aadhaar

Step 2 Linking Aadhaar Card with PAN:

Provide PAN, Aadhaar No., and ENTER NAME AS IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling errors) and submit. The link will be confirmed after verification by UIDAI, the government website for Aadhaar.

In the event of a minor discrepancy in the name of Aadhaar, Aadhaar OTP is required. Please make sure the date of birth and gender are the same in PAN and Aadhaar.

In a rare case where the name of the Aadhaar is completely different from the name on the PAN, the link will fail and the taxpayer will be asked to change the name in Aadhaar or PAN.

The process of linking Aadhaar and PAN is also available after logging into the income tax website.

The following steps are:

Step 1.

If you are not already registered, register first on the Income Tax Department’s portal.

Step 2.

Log in to the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal by entering the login ID, password, and birth date.

Step 3.

A popup window will appear when you log on to the site, which will prompt you to link your PAN card to the Aadhaar card. If you don’t see the popup, go to the blue tab at the top of the “Profile Settings” bar and click “Link Aadhaar.”

Step 4.

Details such as name, date of birth, and gender are mentioned following the details submitted to the e-filing portal at the time of registration.

Check the details on your Aadhaar card with the details on the screen.

Step 5.

If the details match, enter the Aadhaar card number and the captcha code and click the “Link now.”

Step 6.

A popup message will inform you that you have successfully finished your Aadhaar card to your PAN card link.

SMS Method to Link Aadhaar Card with PAN

Now you can also link your Aadhaar card with your PAN via SMS.

The Income Tax Department urged taxpayers to use an SMS-based facility to link their Aadhaar to their PAN. It is possible to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161.

Send an SMS from your registered mobile number to 567678 or 56161 in this format:

UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>

Example: UIDPAN 123456789123 AKPLM2124M
